A cautionary note about RCAF Mustang subsequent identities

The surviving RCAF Mustangs were snapped up by the world wide war birds movement around 1960, as the records below indicate.  This group of fanatics restores, and even creates, aircraft from the barest  of original materials.  Wrecks are combined, new parts are made in several countries, and ID plates are traded freely.  In addition, some of these aircraft went to third world air forces in deals of questionable legality, with the the original identity sometimes obscured to protect the not-so-innocent.  For these reasons, any reference to a modern Mustang as "ex RCAF" must be taken with a grain of salt.  The RCAF history may be there in spirit, but not necessarily in hardware.

Most of my information on the subsequent lives of these aircraft comes from The Warbird Registry, and civil aircraft registers around the world.  As always, I look forward to hearing your comments, corrections, and additions.  Use the link at the bottom of each page to contact me.
